Deanston reach final in penalty shoot-out

BALFRON was the damp venue for Saturday's Telfer Cup semi-final between  the league leaders KILLEARN and DEANSTON.In the first minute Killearn’s Alan Challis had a header stopped on the goal line. A couple of minutes later another Challis header hit the back of the net but it was ruled that Ian Crawford had failed to keep the ball in play before crossing. After 13 minutes a slack pass by a Killearn defender was picked up by Alastair Smith and he flashed through the gap to leave Colin Banks helpless. Four minutes later Deanston were 2-0 ahead when a loose ball in a crowded box was netted by Andy Gillespie. In the last minute of the half Killearn pulled themselves back into the game when Challis' strong header slipped under the keeper and over the line.Killearn made a strong start to the second half and had the ball in the net but the whistle had gone for offside. The equaliser arrived after 16 minutes when David Cameron steered the ball past a host of players. At the end of 90 minutes they were still tied at 2-2 and the match went straight to penalty kicks, Deanston winning the shoot-out 4-3.Read
