A SUPERB hat-trick by Leanne Ross helped to fire her side into the second phase of the UEFA Women’s Cup – the first time this has been achieved by a Scottish side.
Clackmannanshire Council employee Leanne’s triple strike in Serbia helped Glasgow City Ladies FC – which also features Balfron’s Jill Paterson – to a stunning 11-0 win over Moldova’s FC Narta.
Progress to the next phase was in no doubt after a blistering first half that saw Glasgow go in at the break 8-0 up.
A further three strikes in the second half completed the rout and put Leanne, Jill and their teammates into the last 16.
There will be tough games to come in the next phase, however, not least Germany’s FFC Frankfurt – the current cup holders – with Norway’s Roa IL and Zvezda-2005 from Russia, completing the group.
This stage will take place between October 9 and 14.
