Burn progress in cup with six of the best

WELLHOUSE 0

BANNOCKBURN 6

BANNOCKBURN turned in a great performance on Saturday in the West of Scotland Cup second round and completely overran their opponents.

The home side came close early on but their effort just went over the bar. Donaldson then was unluckly, before the same player made it 1-0 with a close range shot.

Bell and S Maitland then combined well together, and S.Maitland finished well from 20 yards to put the visitors 2-0 up at the break.

Just after the restart, G Maitland produced a great save and Bruce saw his shot scrape by the post. They increased their lead on 55 minutes when after a great run and cross by Purdie saw Maitland shoot home from 10 yards.

On the hour mark, they made it 4-0 when Bell blasted home from close range to virtually finish this tie.

Wellhouse then tested G Maitland again, but he produced another fine save.

Bannockburn were causing their opponents problems all over the park and Clark, Bruce and Ross all came close before a great run by McLeod released Clark, and he made no mistake from 10yds to make it 5-0.

Just before the end, another searching foray forward by McLeod caused panic in the home defence, and he found Ross who made no mistake from inside the box to make it 6-0.

A good performance by Bannockburn who move into the third round.

Bannockburn have a free week this Saturday and might have a friendly.

MILTON 1

DUMBARTON 1

A HARD fought match with the visitors just edging on possession, but they could not break down a well marshalled Milton defence.

The game started frantically going from end to end. Shaddick went close in the tenth minute getting on the end of an Adamson cross, but his effort went narrowly past the post.

In the 25th minute it was Shaddick once again who skilfully skipped past a couple of defenders, fed the ball to Gizzy who fired the ball into the back of the net.

They lifted the home side as they set about Dumbarton and tried to kill the game.

But in the 38th minute the visitors equalised from a direct free kick on the edge of the box.

Just on the half-time whistle Ferguson headed narrowly over the bar from a Burn’s corner.

The second half was much life the first, with some great challenges from both sets of players and also it must be said, a great performance from the referee. Dumbarton thought they would win the game in the 80th minute, but the referee deemed the effort offside.

This Saturday Milton meet Gartcosh in the second round of the West of Scotland cup. Transport leaves the clubhouse at 12.30pm.
