RIVERSIDE 2
CARSE THISTLE 1
THE top two teams in the FVDA under-14s league this season met at Ochilview in the Robert Paterson Cup final between Riverside and Carse Thistle.
On this occasion it was Riverside, the league runners-up, who came out on top, beating champions Carse by two goals to one.
In a closely-contested first half, Riverside took the lead with a goal from Calum Scott, rising above a crowded defence to head into the net from a Dillon Stansfield corner.
Shortly afterwards, midfielder Ross Carter scored from another corner, this time on the left, to put Riverside into a deserved lead.
Riverside had a couple of other good chances and came close to extending their lead with a shot that came back off the bar.
Just before half-time Carse Thistle pulled one back with a goal from Mark Flynn after a well-worked move down the left wing.
The second half continued to be hard-fought with few scoring chances for either side. Riverside defended their lead comfortably and ran out worthy winners.
Captain Lewis McIvor lifted the trophy at the climax of a great season for Riverside
As well as coming second in the league, the team were also runners-up in the FVDA Challenge Cup, losing to Claremont only on penalties.
At the team's presentation evening, goalkeeper Colin Sanchez won the Players' Player of the Year award. Ross Carter was the coaches' choice as Player of the Year.
