City beat Milton in friendly

STIRLING CITY 2

MILTON 1

CITY’S first pre-season friendly on Saturday gave the management team a chance to cast an eye over their new recruits.

Nobody in the city team disappointed, from keeper Dormer to Somerville up front.

McGill, McPherson, Watt and S. Craig did great work keeping Milton at bay and on the odd occasion when Milton were able to break, Dormer was on top form to keep the scoresheet blank in the first half.

Cullen had a few chances to open the scoring early in the second half but his efforts were just wide of target and when Marshall replaced Somerville in a re-jigging of the forward line with almost his first touch he lobbed the advancing Milton keeper to give City the lead.

Marshall didn’t stay on the field for long though, after struggled with fitness, and he was replaced by J Anderson, who gave City a two goal advantage with a finely executed free-kick.

I Craig replaced S Craig at the back and McGill was replaced by Mountford who was asked to play out of position at left back and further substitutions were made as McMahon was sent on and Somerville replaced Cullen.

Milton were awarded a penalty which the usually reliable Sharp took, but his aim was off and it scuffed wide of the post. But a slack goal from a set-piece a few minutes later allowed Milton back into the game.

There are lots of positives for the City coaching team to work on as they prepare for the coming league campaign which should kick off in the middle of August.

Further warm up matches will be organised to test the new look team at the beginning of August. Ewen Cooper Cars man of the match was awarded to Jack Anderson.
