STIRLING CITY FC 6
CALLANDER THISTLE 2
CALLANDER got off to a flyer in this match, with City looking flat footed and lethargic in comparison. The City team looked disjointed and Callander took full advantage going into the lead after 20 minutes. Callander were playing with confidence leaving City chasing the game.
City forced a corner at the far side and Mitchell’s cross was perfect for MacArthur whose powerful header found the back of the net to bring City level.
Callander were not fazed and continued to dominate the first half, they were rewarded with a second goal to regain the lead. J Anderson and McGowan took charge of a City free kick which was well worked, Anderson unfortunate to hit the side netting.
At half-time Watt made way for Gamble as City looked to give themselves options along the back line. City clawed their way back into the game as they drew level thanks to Mitchell.
Callander almost went back in front from a free kick but Dormer in the City goal was able to parry the ball over the bar. The home side then settled in and began to pass the ball around as they built up play from the back.
City took the lead when McGowan turned provider to Neumann, the winger cutting inside to slip it past the keeper. McClymont took the field for McMahon with Traynor stepping up into midfield.
MacArthur was unlucky not to get his second from a corner, his header going wide at the back post. McGowan got a well deserved goal taking City into the lead after being set up with a superbly weighted pass from Mitchell. Stirling were now in their stride and they went 5-2 ahead after McGowan held up play on the by line and cut it back to MacDonald who struck home.
City had broken their guests in the second half with an impressive display, McGowan finishing them off with his second bursting into the top corner leaving City finishing the game 6-2 up.
Stirling now return to league duty next week. “Ewen Cooper Cars” Man of the Match was awarded to Scott MacArthur.
