ALBION chairman Peter McKenzie defended his decision not to call for an early inspection last Saturday for the game against Alloa, which was called off around 1.30pm.
“I was down at 8.30am and, apart from one area, the groundsman and I thought it was OK,” he said. “He worked on the area in question and when I came back at 1.15pm the referee was on the pitch and he made the decision to call it off. We definitely wanted the game to go ahead because it would have brought in some welcome money.”
Home crowds at Forthbank have dipped to around the 400 mark and that is a disappointment to Mr McKenzie after a season in the First Division which meant Albion had one of their best years financially for some time.
The chairman said: “There is a big difference from visiting teams like Dunfermline and Dundee to Peterhead and Brechin and the crowds that come along. We’ve had bad breaks this year through injuries but they’re clearing up now and we have some good players here.”
