STIRLING Albion supporters are lining up a bid to buy the club from owner/chairman Peter McKenzie.
And they’re looking for help from anyone who has an affinity with the Binos to join them in their quest.
Reaction from Albion fans so far on supporters’ forums has been favourable and a big crowd is expected at a meeting on Wednesday, May 6 at the King Robert Hotel when the plans will be unveiled.
It has been well documented that Mr McKenzie has been seeking a buyer for the club for the past few years – now the fans themselves are hoping to take over.
In 2003 a group of fans set up a supporters’ trust, which in its early days aimed to have one of their members on the board of the club.
That attempt, however, failed and since then the trust has worked behind the scenes, taking on the role of producing the club’s programme for home games.
It is believed the trust has had preliminary talks with Mr McKenzie but no bid had been made as yet.
Important
Fans claim Wednesday’s meeting “could be the most important meeting since the formation of the club”.
A trust spokesperson said: “Mr McKenzie has been great for Stirling Albion but he has been looking to sell for a while and no-one seems to have shown an interest.
“We don’t want to see the club die so we’re starting this campaign and calling on all Stirling fans to back it.
“We’ve discussed a number of fundraising ideas and plans on how the club would run – these will be revealed at the meeting on May 6.”
The meeting is scheduled for 7pm for a 7.15pm start and a big crowd is anticipated.
“Bring a friend, bring your family, bring a neighbour,” added the spokesperson. “Anyone who runs a business in the town or anybody who has even the smallest of soft spot for the Albion should be there. Everybody is more than welcome.
“We need a massive show of strength and we need it now.
