THEY might have earned millions around the world with their tennis skills – but they haven’t forgotten their sporting roots!
When Dunblane brother Andy and Jamie Murray heard from their grandfather Roy Erskine about the campaign to buy Stirling Albion, they immediately offered their support.
Roy played for the Binos in the mid 1950s and spoke to his grandsons about the fans’ fight to buy the Binos.
“I spoke to Jamie and he immediately called Andy and they both were happy to lend their support to this important community project,” said Roy.
The brothers have paid their £40 membership fees and earlier this campaign spokesperson Paul Goodwin presented Roy with membership certificates made out to the tennis stars.
Andy and Jamie are the latest celebrities to back the campaign.
Lisbon Lions Billy McNeill and Tommy Gemmell have pledged their support for the BuyStirlingAlbion campaign.
And skipper of legendary 1970 brazilian World Cup winners Carlos Alberto is also lending support.
From the world of TV, West Bromwich Albion fan and high profile England supporter, comedy star Frank Skinner has put his weight behind the Stirling Albion fans’ efforts.
Others include celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay, design guru Colin McAllister; TV historian and Stirling resident Neil Oliver and popular radio DJ Heather Suttie, whose dad has supported the Binos since he was a boy!
Campaign spokesperson Paul Goodwin said: “It is fantastic that we now have what we are sure is a future world number one tennis player and grand slam winner in Andy, and a Wimbledon champion in Jamie, pledging their support.”
The “BuyStirlingAlbion” campaign is offering football fans across the world the chance to become part of the first ever 100% fans’ owned football league club in the UK for just £40 with a guarantee that if the bid fails they will get £35 returned to them.
