STIRLING
ON SATURDAY an impressive 171 players took part in the first competition of the season, the King James IV stableford, which is played for the 500 Years Trophy.
The competition scratch score was unchanged from the standard 71.
The trophy winner was Robbie Robertson (13), whose superb 44 points would have won in any weather. His winning total was three points ahead of second place and five clear of his fellow category two players.
Robbie’s closest rival on the day was Ben Liddell, who also played very well to total 41 points.
Results: category one 41 Ben Liddell (4); 37 John Cooper (6), Iain MacFarlane (5), Ian Muir (7), Brian Rose (5), Robert Cunningham (9). Category two 44 Robbie Robertson (13), 39 Alister Wallace (13); 38 Neil Malone (13), Russell McGlynn (12). Category three 39 S Peebles (15), Colin MacDonald (15); 36 Angus Wilson (15), I J Carmichael (20), Ken Munro (20).
DUNBLANE
ALAN Wilkie returned the best scratch score at the monthly medal with a three over par 72. Twelve pars were set alongside bogeys at 8, 9 and 15, a double bogey at 7 and birdies at 3 and 17.
Euan Douglas (7) followed up his scratch success last week with a 67 to win the first class, recovering from a bogey, bogey start and highlighted by a birdie 4 at 6. Runner-up was Keith MacDonald (6) on 68 with 13 pars and five bogeys and a better inward half than Neil Welsh (5), who suffered with a double bogey at 17. After an outward half of nine straight pars Ian MacDonald (7) was fourth on 69.
In the second class Dougal Thornton (15) was well ahead of the field on 65. Runner-up was Andy Thomson (14) who recovered from a 7, 6 start to return 69 and a better inward half than club secretary Roddy Morrison (13). Four players returned 70 but fourth place went to Robert Brynes (12) with the best inward half, only one over par, edging out last week’s winner Thomas Pheely (12), Alan Ross (13) and Robert Weir (14).
With the lowest score of the day, 62, Willie Turner (19) won the third class and a cut of three to his handicap. Runner-up was Charles Hislop (18) on 63 with James Comrie (18) third on 68 and Cameron Ritchie (20) fourth on 69.
The winners of each class now qualify for the medal final in October.
The final mixed foursomes of the winter season was played on Sunday with a good turnout of 48. Ladies club champion Nan Morrison won the the ladies’ trophy and Ian MacDonald retained the gents’ trophy he won last year.
The closing date for the KO competitions is Monday, April 13. Partner lists are available.
The competition on Saturday will be a stableford, with the Captain’s Prize qualifier on Saturday, April 18.
DUNBLANE LADIES
SIXTY ladies played in the Golf Foundation Medal last Tuesday and Cecelia Kenny was the scratch winner again with a scratch score of 79. Laura Lee was the medal winner with an excellent net score of 64 in her first game of the season and had her handicap reduced to 19.
Nicola Robertson finished with a net 67. Sandra Peters got a score of 67 and was one of three ladies with a handicap reduction.

BRIDGE OF ALLAN
THE season got underway this weekend with the traditional captain v vice-captain match on Saturday and the first round of the Spring Shield on Sunday.
Captain Scott Benson hit the first drive before his team went on to win the match 16-12. Vice-captain Alan Waters’ net 63 was the best score of the day. In the A class James Mackay took the honours with his net 65, narrowly beating Alex Graham and Mark Carnegie. Alan’s 63 won him the B class by a couple of shots from Ian Mailer snr and Kevin Allan.
On Sunday the weather was a bit kinder although scoring proved difficult, with the CSS rising to 69. In the A class Iain Taylor’s net 66 earned him first place, with Jim Black second and Trevor Kelly third. In the B class Tony Jackson also returned a net 66, which was two shots better than Alex Aitchison in second and Kevin Allan in third once again.
The second round of the Spring Shield takes place on Saturday, April 18. There is a senior medal on Friday, followed by the Spring Meeting on Saturday.
DOLLAR
RESULTS in the Midweek Medal on Thursday results were: division one 1 A McLean (12) 63, 2 S Leitch (12) 65, 3 J Paterson (10) 67; division two 1 C Davies (19) 63, 2 A Meikle (15) 65, 3 J Wilkie (25) 67.
On Saturday the Easter Competition was held: division one 1 B Cowie (10) 65, 2 M Todd (9) 66, 3 S Bonnar (11) 69; division two 1 G Fenwick (16) 60, 2 D Malcolm (13) 64, 3 A Manzie (24) 67.
Results of the Moir Medal on Sunday: division one 1 G Davies (8) 67, 2 A Clouston (10) 67, 3 V Allan (5) 68; division two 1 J Scott (17) 61, 2 D Cowie (18) 63, 3 A Stephenson (25) 67.
