Spring meeting abandoned due to rain

THE Spring Meeting at Stirling on Saturday had to be abandoned around lunchtime, as the course became unplayable due to the constant rainfall. This competition will now be held on Saturday, June 6. Results from this competition, together with the Autumn Meeting on August, 29 will decide the winner of the Infirmary Cup.

As Saturday’s competition was also the qualifier for the National Pro-Am Championships, this will now be the next Medal on Saturday, May 16. The winner will play in the regional finals with professional, Ian Collins, at Crieff Golf Club on June 9.

DUNBLANE NEW GENTS

DUE to terrible weather conditions last week, the medals due to be played on Wednesday, May 6 and Saturday, May 9 were both cancelled. Due to this latter cancellation, the Oct 2nd round qualifier will now be played on Saturday, May 16 alongside the Hydro Cup.

Members are reminded that medal play will be possible on Friday, May 15 in the hope of easing pressure on the Saturday.

Tickets for the Hydro Cup Prizegiving on Saturday, May 16 are available at £18 per person for a two course meal, coffee and cabaret or £6 per person for cabaret only.

DUNBLANE NEW LADIES

IN THE Captains Prize 47 ladies played on May 5 in very mixed weather.

Nicola Robertson (13) played in some of the worst weather, but still managed a net 69 which reduces her handicap to 13.

Nicola’s score was matched by Shirley Erskine who also finished with a net 69 and reduces her handicap. Both ladies were Captain’s Prize winners in their respective sections with Nicola being the Scratch Winner.

Results: Silver: 1 Nicola Robertson 84-15-69, 2 Eileen Harrild 95-20-75, 3 Elizabeth Milligan 92-7-75; Bronze: 1 Shirley Erskine 90-21-69, 2 Lorna Brown 102-25-77; 3 Maggie Gardner 101-23-78.

MUTHILL LADIES

IN the May Spoon/1st Round of Championship, results were: Division One: 1 Jacq Scott 100-24-76, 2 Eileen MacLeod 109-25-84.

Division Two: 1 Margaret Robertson 109-31-78, 2 Hazel Lees 111-30-81.

BRIDGE Of ALLAN

ON Saturday at Bridge of Allan, the heavy rain meant there was the lowest entry for a medal this year. While early morning and late afternoon conditions were better no players managed to complete their round in the middle of the afternoon.

In the end, Drummond Gardner had the best score of the day with an excellent net 63. Other scores were: A Class: 1 Jim Black 76-10-66, 2 Alex Graham 76-8-68, 3 Iain Taylor 80-11-69; B Class: 1 Drummond Gardner 86-23-63, 2 Tom Wallace 85-18-67, 3 David Smeaton 81-13-68.

This Saturday sees the start of two brand new strokeplay competitions which will be played over the summer. The competition will be decided over four rounds and a scratch and handicap champion will be decided. Also on Saturday evening there is a disco in the clubhouse and all members and guests are invited.

HYDRO CUP

GOLFERS from Dunblane and further afield are getting set to tee off for the annual Hydro Cup challenge.

Sponsored by Dunblane Hydro, this year’s event takes place on Saturday, May 16 and will see 200 golfers, comprising members of Dunblane Golf Club and guests of Dunblane Hydro battling it out to become the proud winner at this annual tournament, which has become a popular highlight in the golf club’s calendar.

As well as the trophy itself, on the day golfers will be welcomed at the 9th hole, with a delicious buffet and an array of drinks courtesy of Dunblane Hydro, and nips of whiskey sponsored by Tullibardine.

Tricia Fitzsimons, General Manager of Dunblane Hydro, said: “This event is a real highlight for us as it offers another opportunity for us to actively involve ourselves with the local community. We wish all the golfers the best of luck for the day and are hopeful for good weather.”

Last year’s Hydro Cup was won by Raymond McMillan from Classic Britain, a guest of Dunblane Hydro.
