REASONABLE conditions prevailed for Saturday’s Victory Cup (Strokeplay) competition at Stirling, although the CSS was 72.
Congratulations to Scott Hamilton who won the Victory Cup with a net 67, one shot ahead of Stuart Drysdale and William McCarry.
The best eight net scores also qualify for the King George V trophy, the other five qualifiers are Syd Stewart, Iain Campbell, Peter Gilchrist, John Murray, and Martin Davidson.
David Morrisson also qualifies to play with Professional Ian Collins in the National Pro am at Crieff in June.

In the Wilson Salver, 200 players from over 30 different clubs competed in this annual gents foursomes. The weather stayed fine, with just a strengthening wind in the afternoon.
The worthy winners of the Handicap Prize were John Colquhoun of Stirling and Gus McKean of Braehead, with a net score of 68 – just pipping Kevin Smith (Aberfoyle) and Jim Crawford (Dunblane) who carded an early 68.5.
They were closely followed by Grant Denholm and P Martin (Alloa) who won 3rd Handicap Prize with a net 69, having a slightly better inward half than Trevor Boyd and Hugh O’Connor (Stirling) – winning 4th Handicap Prize also with a 69.
The prize for best scratch score was won by Rab Craw and David Chalmers (Falkirk Tryst).
In Wednesday Medal (May 13), the CSS was 72 and a cold wind made conditions difficult later on. Well done to Harry Dawson for mastering the conditions and winning with a net 67.

STIRLING JUNIORS
LEADING returns from the club championship first round qualifier and Medal: Callum Worsley 88-26-62, Josh Cleland 80-12-68, Fraser Davidson 92-23-69.
The next Medal and second qualifying round of the Club Championship is on Sunday, May 24, at 11.30am. The best eight aggregate scratch scores over the two rounds qualify for the championship matchplay stages.
DUNBLANE NEW GENTS
WITH play on Friday and Saturday and a number of guests from the sponsors, Dunblane Hydro, of 216 gents were added to the 86 ladies who played on Tuesday all in competition for the Hydro Cup.
The winner of the trophy was Ian Barrowman (25) who picked up his first silverware with a 62 and a better last six holes than John O’Donnell (15). Ian also received a voucher for 2 nights at Edinburgh Caledonian Hilton and a bottle of Champagne courtesy of the sponsors.
Best Scratch Score was returned by Cammy MacCallum on 71 and a Better Inward Half than Craig O’Connor. Cammy had 14 pars, bogeys at 4, 8 and 15 with a vital birdie 2 at 16. Craig also had 14 pars with bogeys at 3, 16 and 17 with a birdie 2 at 7.
Finishing third in the Hydro Cup Peter Bell (9) won the First Class on 65 and a bih than Jim Crawford (5) helped by a birdie 3 at 10. Third was Stewart Cameron (8) on 67 and a Better Inward Half than Hamish Donald (10) who suffered with a double bogey at 17.
Having missed out on the Trophy John O’ Donnell (15) had the consolation of winning the Second Class on 62 including birdies at 12 and 18. Three players returned 66 but second place went to Thomas Pheely (11) with the Best Inward Half of level par with a bogey at 16 and a birdie at 18.Third was Charles Hislop (16) again with the bih than Martin Cockburn (16).
The Third Class was won by Maurice Campbell (19) on 67 with George Thomson (17) second on 67 and a Better Inward Half than Ronnie Parker (20) despite Ronnie getting a birdie 2 at 11. Fourth place, and among the winners for the first time for a long time, went to Duncan Thomson (20) on 69.
Dunblane Hydro sponsored the day and the club are most grateful for their continued support.
On Wednesday 127 played in the qualifying for the Arnold McCulloch Cup. Always played midweek, traditionally to allow shopkeepers to qualify for a match play competition, the top 32 with 73 and bih move on to the KO stages.
Best Scratch Score was 70 from Mark Carnegie with bogeys at 2, 12 and 14 and birdies at 1 and 18.
Gordon Foster (13) won the First Class on 66 highlighted by a birdie 2 at 16. Runner up was Ian MacDonald (7) on 67 with birdies at 1, 5 and 7.
Four players returned 68 but Colin Graham (5) was third with the Best Inward Half finished with a birdie at 18. Fourth went to Stewart Cameron (8) who in turn edged out Junior Lewis Cassie (7) who birdied 11 and Course Manager Chris Pearson (4) who finished with two bogeys after a birdie at 15.
The Second Class was won by George Peggie (24) on 66 and a Better Inward Half than Gavin Drummond (24). Third place went to Jim Humphreys (20) on 68 with Alan Mackay (17) fourth with the better last three holes of four players on 69.
The “A” Team narrowly lost their League Match away to Buchanan Castle by 4.5 games to 3.5.
Next Saturday will be the R S Erskine Quaich sponsored by R S Erskine (Optometrists). The winner of the Quaich will receive a prize and their will also be a team prize with the Best Two Scores from the three counting at each hole.
There is a Texas Scramble on Sunday. Any combination of Ladies, Gents and Juniors (maximum two Juniors per team) and book your own time on the Start Sheet.
The Ballantine Medal for players with handicap 14 and lower is on Sunday, May 31. A 36 hole tournament the Entry Sheets are now available in the Gents locker room.

DUNBLANE NEW LADIES
LAST Tuesday 86 ladies enjoyed good weather for the Hydro Cup. Dunblane Hydro who sponsor the event provided not only the prizes but an excellent selection of food for the ladies throughout the day.
Sheila Campbell was the winner with a net score of 69 and won vouchers, a spa treatment and the Hydro Quaich. Sandra Peters was runner up with a net score of 71 and received a spa treatment at Dunblane Hydro. Sandra also won a bottle of Champagne for Nearest the Pin with Janise Grant also winning champagne for the longest drive at the 18th.
Our thanks go not only to the Hydro for their generosity but also to Alec and the catering staff and Chris and his greenkeeping staff for making this such a good day.

The final between Maureen Valentine and vice-captain Grace Paterson was played on Sunday with Maureen Valentine a worthy winner.
BRIDGE OF ALLAN
SATURDAY saw the start of a new strokeplay competition with four rounds to be played over the summer.
Best round of the day went to Colin McReath with his excellent net 59 being four shots better than his closest rival.
Other results were A Class:1 Willie Whitfield 71-6-65 BIH, 2 Alex Graham 73-8-65, 3 Mark Carnegie 72-3-69; B Class: 1 Colin Mcreath 74-15-59, 2 Malcolm Gardiner 77-14-63, 3 Phil Wallom 89-24-65.

THE Spring Rosebowl Stableford competition took place on May 9 when J Gray ran out winner with 37 points. M Hill was runner up with 35 points (BIH) with J Shaw third.
Saturday, May 17 was the Monthly Medal and M Bordeau took first place with a nett 62; 2 A White nett 63 (BIH); 3 Cochrane.
