STIRLING’S build-up to the official opening of the season continued with the Famous Grouse Fourball competition.
Of the 50 teams involved 15 broke 70 and the winning places had to be decided on a countback.
Winners Tom Stewart and Pat Mooney reached the turn in 34 and finished with birdies at the last two holes for 66.
John Cattigan and Rab Sneddon were second and Colin Griffin and Maurice McCann third.
Tickets are still for the Italian theme night to celebrate opening day on Saturday, March 24.
BRUCEFIELDS
THE season starts on Saturday, March 31, with the Captain v Vice-Captain competition. The sheet is almost full but there are still spaces available.
BRIDGE OF ALLAN
THE final of the Winter League will be played on Saturday as part of a competition open to all players.

THE Scottish Boys Championship willo be played from April 9-14 at Murcar, north of Aberdeen. Lawrence Allan from Alva will take on Jack Valentine from Musselburgh in the first round, while Braehead’s Rikky Alexander plays Ben Kinsley from St Andrews.

On Wednesday the prizegiving took place for this trophy. Brian Christie pipped Gus Ferguson by one shot, with Willie Blair finishing third. The club thanked Malcolm Spiers for running the competition.
