THERE was an excellent turnout of 200 golfers on Friday and Saturday for the President’s Cup at Stirling despite the poor weather.
The standard scratch for Friday was 73, reflecting the conditions, and 71 on Saturday.
The winner in division one, with an excellent score of 68 was Kenny Stewart. In second place was Stewart Gillespie with 69 and tied in third were Ian Munro, Alex Giannandrea, Andy Malcolm and Darek Kunecki.
In division two the winner – and overall winner – was Willie Kerr with a net 67 and in joint second place were Steven Hunter and Martin Davidson on 69.
The division three winner on a countback was JK Todd with a net 68. In second, also with a 68, was Mark Kelly and in joint third were James McIntosh and DJ Liddell with 70.
The senior team earned their third halved away match of the season at Falkirk Tryst in the CLRML. An away win was tantalisingly close, with three games lost on the 18th green.
Ian Muir and Duncan McCallum won two and one; Archie Young and Tom Rose lost one down; Jimmy McArthur and Frank Gordon won five and four; Tom Johnson and Ian Hume lost one down; Mike Fabisiak and John Davidson won two and one; Tom Meikle and Bobby Roy lost one down.
The junior handicap championship was contested between Grant MacArthur and Gordon Campbell, both playing off 23.
In the blustery wind Gordon's higher shots were blown off-target and Grant crept ahead to be three up playing the 16th. The hole was halved and Grant won the championship three and two.
In the junior championship two newcomers contested the final. Darek Kunecki (4) and Colin McGregor (8) gave an excellent display despite difficult conditions. Colin lost his ball on the 15th to go three down then the 16th was halved in four and Darek won the match three and two.
BRIDGE OF ALLAN
GORDON Marshall carried off the club championship this year with a five and four win over Derek Macgowan.
The Oliphant Handicap Trophy was won by Ricky McConnell, two and one over Jason Malley.
Ladies champion for the third year running, playing some of her best golf this year, was Claire Capocci, beating Louise Thrippleton seven and six.
The junior final was the closest- run match. with Lewis Gilbride overcoming Cameron Blaney one up.
Champion Gordon praised the greenstaff, who with the help of club captain Ian Mailer, Kevin Allan, Tony Jackson, Dave Anderson and others, were out drying greens all week to ensure all the championship games were played.
THE Rotary am-am on Thursday and the competition on Saturday both had to be cancelled because of the weather but the Kippendavie Trophy gents’ open was played on Sunday with a full field of 147 from 45 clubs.
The trophy winner with an excellent 62 was Dunblane member Ian Campbell (11).
The best scratch score of level par 69 was returned by Blair Carnegie, who retained the club championship just a week earlier. Runner-up was Scott McChristie from Braehead on 71, with Barry Anderson from Comrie third with BL6 on 72 than Willie Gordon (Hilton Park) and AG Miller (Tulliallan).
The first class was won by Chris Donnelly (9) from Tulliallan on 64. Runner-up on 67 was David Oliver (7) from Caledonian GC but who had been a junior at Dunblane and put his local knowledge to good effect. He had a better last three than A Cunningham (7) from Braehead on 67.
Dunblane member Ian Campbell (13) won the second class on 67, edging out his playing partner Paul Russell (12) from Hilton Park on 68 and bih than Scott Renwick (14) from Dumfries and Galloway.
The July midweek Medal is to be played today (Wednesday.)
Following the cancellation last weekend, the seniors qualifying will be played this weekend along with the monthly medal.

DOLLAR'S Scott Borrowman shared third place at the East of Scotland Championship at Lundin Links. He was in second place until a lost ball at the 17th on the final round of the 72-home event. Lawrence Allan (Alva) missed the cut by one shot.
This weekend Lawrence will be off to Sweden, representing Scotland in the European boys team event.
ON SATURDAY the annual open was played for the William McLean Trophy (CSS 69): handicap 13-18 1 C Simpson (17) 66 acb, 2 A Bryce (17) 66, 3 P Atkinson (15) 67; handicap 19-28 1 D Douglas (20) 66 acb, 2 M Brember (22) 66, 3 J McKail (20) 67.
The William McLean Trophy winner was Darren Douglas.
Juniors’ Centenary Shield medal on June 25 (CSS 68): 1 S Christie (21) 64, 2 R Walker (8) 65, 3 G Murray (6) 66.
The seniors Caledonian League match at Dumfermline GC resulted in a 4.5-1.5 win for the home club.
Keith Adams Trophy (CSS 70): 1 B Christie (6) 69, 2 P Cunningham (23) 71 acb, 3 R Duncan (15) 71.
The match against Grangemouth on Friday was abandoned because of the weather.
