Golf: Jamie is strokeplay leader

JAMIE Drummond won the third round of the Strokeplay Shield on Saturday at Bridge of Allan.

Results were: A class 1 Jamie Drummond 74-9-65 bih, 2 Robert Birrell 75-10-65, 3 Brian Park 73-7-66; B class 1 Andrew Gardiner 76-20-56, 2 Steven Kirk 87-24-63, 3 Robert McColl 78-13-65 bih.

Brothers Gregor and Jamie McEwan from Alloa GC won the scratch and handicap titles in the junior open, which was shortened because of lightning on the course.

Second scratch was Bridge of Allan player Oliver Lowry and the handicap runner-up was Craig Jackman from Dunblane.

Vice-president Frank Kelly made the presentations.

DUNBLANE LADIES

NEWTON Trophy, Hairways Trophy and Charity Medal: winner Miriam Wilson; silver 1 Miriam Wilson 83-12-71, 2 Lizee McGraw 85-10-75; bronze 1 Elise Macrae 99-24-75, 2 Maureen Valentine 100-25-75; scratch Miriam Wilson 83.

DUNBLANE

THE August monthly medal attracted the highest entry for a few weeks.

Joe Patton returned the best scratch score, a two over par 71 and BIH.

For the second week in a row Duncan Morrison (6) won the first class with 66. Runner-up was Mike Balman (7) on 67 and Jim Crawford (5) took third place on 68 and BIH.

The second class was won by Ian Kenny (12) with the day’s best score of 64. Runner-up was Sandy MacDonald (11) on 66 and Jamie MacFarlane (12) took third place on 67 and bih than Vick Knox (15) and Eddie Russell (14).

The third class was won by Phil Castle (19) on 67. Paul Lewis (18) was second on 68 and BIH than Andrew Thomson (20).

There was a poor turnout of 38 for the midweek medal on Wednesday. Ken Wilkie returned the best scratch score of 71.

Joe Patton (5) won the first class on 70, with John Barr (5) second on 71 and Stewart Kerr (8) third on 73 and bl6.

The second class was won by Gerry MacFarlane (21) on 71, ahead of Geoff Seaman (15) on 72 and BIH than Les Sutton (21).

Next weekend is the first round of the 36-hole WC Jug with the second round on August 24-25.

The AG Kinnes Invitation Fourball is on Sunday and tee times are still available.

The Observer Trophy open mixed foursomes is on Saturday, August 18, and tee times are available.

The junior open will be on Thursday, August 16, with tee times available from 11am to 2.30pm.

CLACKMANNAN COUNTY

BRAEHEAD'S Scott Moffat had the best local performance in the Scottish Amateur Championship at Royal Dornoch last week, reaching the last 16. County team captain Jamie Aitken lost in the last 32.

Darren Hulston and Scott Borrowman (Dollar) and Lawrence Allan (Alva) were also at the tournament.
