County old-boy on call

FORMER Stirling County scrum-half Mark McMillan has been called into the Scotland squad for their training camp in Spain this week as preparations are stepped up for next month’s Autumn Tests against New Zealand, South Africa and Canada.

Uncapped Glasgow Warriors player McMillan (25) – a former national under-21 captain who represented Scotland A in the summer – was enlisted after injuries to two other scrum-halfs in the squad.

British Lion Chris Cusiter was ruled out after he fractured a thumb on duty for his club Perpignan and will require surgery.

He is expected to be sidelined for six weeks.

And Rory Lawson suffered a rib cartilage injury playing for his club Gloucester against the Dragons at the weekend.

SATURDAY’S torrential rain and high winds meant County’s home match against Selkirk was postponed.

And with the Bridgehaugh men now languishing 10 points adrift at the foot of Scottish Hydro Premiership Division One they have a great chance to claw back some of the deficit this Saturday when they face Hawick at Stirling.

See Friday’s Observer for County’s team news.

County Under-18s John Lewis National Cup match against Boroughmuir also fell victim to the severe weather conditions last Saturday.

As we go to press, the date for the re-arranged match has still to be confirmed, however, it is likely to be this Saturday with a 1pm kick-off at Bridgehaugh. The National Cup match taking priority over the scheduled league fixture with Ellon in the Caledonia League.
