Under 18s see off Ellon in style

WITH the Stirling County Under 18 John Lewis National Cup tie against Boroughmuir re-scheduled for tonight (Wednesday), at 7pm under the Bridgehaugh lights, the league fixture against Ellon was able to go ahead as scheduled last Saturday.

With an eye on the cup match, the County coaches selected a young team, with the aim to rest players, give match time to those returning from injury and provide a development opportunity for others that will be key players next season.

The plan worked to perfection from the start. Within ten minutes, Craig Kinnear, Robbie Boswell and Craig Robertson had all crossed the whitewash to establish a 17 point cushion. County were in total command of bottom of the table Ellon and further scores by Fynn Russell and Grant Smith extended the score to 31-0 at the break with Mark Marchbank converting to make the extras.

A number of changes were made at the break, however, the momentum was maintained with Robbie Hogg scoring immediately after the interval. County wrapped up the match with scores by Euan Laverty, Fraser Smith and Greg Marshalsey supplemented with conversions by Robertson taking the final score to 55. The only blemish on the performance when a lack of concentration at a ruck saw an opportunist try by the Ellon pack at the end of the match to complete the scoring at 55-5.

County now look forward to the clash with Boroughmuir at Bridgehaugh tonight.
