Cup challenge for County

THERE’S a break from the pressures of league rugby this Saturday when County travel to play National League Division Three mid-table side Lenzie in the cup.

The kick-off at Viewfield Park will be earlier than normal, possibly 1.30pm, just in case extra-time is required.

Lenzie are considerable underdogs but they will be eager to test their mettle against Stirling, especially as they have already ko’d a side from a higher league.

In the last round on January 14, they travelled to defeat Cambuslang of National One by a 13-10 scoreline.

The winner of Saturday’s game is at home to the winner of the Trinity Accies v Ellon tie in the fifth round on February 21. That’s likely to be ambitious Aberdeenshire club Ellon who are in Premiership Three.

All last Saturday’s Premiership One fixtures were postponed due to the icy conditions. County’s crucial match at Hawick will be rescheduled, possibly for March 14.

Don’t miss Friday’s edition for all the latest team news and a confirmation of the Lenzie kick-off time.

Jetting off on international duty this week is stand-off Robbie McGowan who is in the squad for the under-20 international against France in Macon, north of Lyon, on Friday.

McGowan came on in the second half of last Friday’s 18-17 win for the young Scots over Wales at Perth.
