Murrayfield joy for County youths

THE Stirling County rugby talent factory continues to be in full production.

Sunday saw the Bridgehaugh club retain the Scottish under-15 championship title at Murrayfield with a crushing 52-5 win over Ayr.

Stirling’s tries came from Brodie Clark 2, Sean MacDonald 2, Johnathan Priestly, Jamie Ortlepp, Joel Fuentes (man of the match) and Stephen Gillies. Skipper Jack Urquhart kicked six conversions.

His dad, the County under-15 coach, Eric Urquhart, said: “I feel absolute elation for the boys – they’re absolutely delighted. Their commitment and effort is first class and I’m sure we have some stars of the future.

“They’ve worked their socks off to get here, they’re extremely fit and that was key to success.”

Team: Stephen Gillies; Brodie Clark, David Copland, Adam Tunaley, Johnathan Priestly; Jack Urquhart, Matthew Johnston; Lachie Walters, William Vernon, Ross Murray, Andrew Wales, Joel Fuentes, Calum Worsley, Shaun Macdonald, Chris Arnold.

Substitutes (all used) – Douglas Scott, Gregor Anderson, Stuart Sneddon, Kyle Adam, Jamie Ortlepp, Lawrence Miller and Callum Sharp.

There’s no County 1st XV action tomorrow (Saturday).

As Craig Deacons is getting married this weekend, Edinburgh Accies have kindly agreed to switch the re-scheduled sixth round cup-tie to a 6.30pm kick-off at Raeburn Place on Wednesday, April 8.
