U18s canter to victory

STIRLING County Under 18’s lined up last Saturday against Glenrothes with the welcome return from long term injury of Gavin Denham and Euan Laverty.

Any fears of a tight contest were dispelled in the opening quarter with Grant Smith opening the account on five minutes, Denham scoring the first of his hat-trick, Mark Marchbank and Billy McCulloch extending the lead to 29-0 with conversions by Robbie Hogg.

The match was over as a contest and it was disappointing to see two self inflicted errors spoil a dominant performance by County as Glenrothes took advantage to sore two tries either side of a further score by Marchbank before the break with County leading 36-10.

County extended the score through Denham completing his hat-trick, Craig Kinnear, Andy Parker and Laverty. County won 71-10.

County now await the final home league match against Gordonstoun where a win will secure the Caledonian league title.

Matches have been arranged this week against Clacks Colts in a friendly on Wednesday and either Gordonstoun in the league or West of Scotland in a friendly next Saturday as preparations for the National Youth Cup Final on April 25.
