New tournament for rugby players

A BID is being made to organise a first-ever Central Scotland School FPs’ 10-a-side rugby tournament.

It’s the brainchild of Alva Academy PE teacher Phil Stephen and he’s hoping the any proceeds will help schools rugby by purchasing a set of strips or helping to pay transport costs.

The event itself will take place at Hillfoots Rugby Club in Tillicoultry, starting at 5.30pm on Wednesday, June 3.

Former pupils aged over 18 but under 30 should get a school team together and take part.

Each player will pay £5 to enter and the money will be distributed to one or two schools on an annual basis.
