HOLYROOD Park and Arthur’s Seat provided a superb backdrop for the Scottish Athletics inter-district cross country championships.
The senior and U20/U 17 races doubled up as the Celtic Cross Country event.
The senior women’s 5kmrace started proceedings, with three Central athletes representing the East of Scotland. Lyndsay Morrison showed improved form to come through in 15th, with Kerry McPhee 25th and Jennifer Emsley 26th.
Matthew Crawford finished 12th in the U13 boys’ race over 3000m. In the girls’ race Katie Gallagher took 15th place.
The U15 race was over 4km and Eilidh MacCorquodale finished 12th.
Kathryn Gillespie would have been one of the favourites for the U15s but ran for Scotland U17s against Wales, Northern Ireland and the Irish Republic. Kathryn ran powerfully to finish in fourth place and second Scot, with Scotland coming second in the competition behind the Irish Republic. Emily Greenan ran for the East of Scotland in the inter-district match and came in 14th.
The senior men’s included the U23 Celtic international over a three-lap course totalling 6km.
Alex Hendry featured at the head of the race throughout and finished fifth overall and second in the Celtic international race as he led the Scottish team to victory.
Matthew Sutherland and Michael Wright both had strong runs, with Matthew 38th and Michael 41st.
